Introduction

After Venerable Sayalay Susīlā’s ordination in 1991, she traveled to Myanmar to pursue her intensive meditation practice for many years, learning under the guidance of several renowned teachers using various techniques.

Venerable Sayalay Susīlā is proficient in both Chinese and English and is well-known for her simple and lucid way of imparting the profound teachings of the Buddha. She is also well-versed in the Abhidhamma, Sutta Pitaka and the Pāli language. As a very experienced and competent meditation instructor, she has taught many students who have benefited and found joy through her meaningful Dhamma talks and guidance.

Venerable Sayalay Susīlā numerous Dhamma publications, both in Chinese and English, have been published and made available around the world.

Over the years, Venerable Sayalay Susīlā has traveled to many places around the world but has never made any of these places her permanent home. She untiringly propagates the Dhamma, teaching meditation in the

United States, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, Latvia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. Lately, Venerable Sayalay Susīlā has focused her Dhamma teachings primarily in Penang, where she now leads a group of devoted practitioners to actualize her vision in prolonging the Buddha Sāsana.

The Vision and Mission of Venerable Sayalay Susīlā

Vision: To establish a wise meditation community with right effort

Mission: To integrate meditation into the daily life of Buddhist practitioners

Objectives:

  1. To educate Buddhist practitioners in the right view of the Dhamma.
  2. To cultivate a habit of meditation among Buddhist practitioners.
  3. To train teachers in the Buddha Dhamma and in meditation.

The Beginning Appamada Vihari Meditation Center …

The journey to the establishing of Appamada Vihari Meditation Center starts here.  Ground leveling and fencing work as on 4 Sep 2013.  The conversation recorded was in Penang Hokkien, a local dialect, a unique language in this region interspersed with Malay words.  It is hilarious to some Indonesian ears !
